Higher and Higher
New Harvest...First Gathering celebrates its 30th birthday with a reissue that's been remastered from the 1977 tapes. Not only was this album Dolly's first self-produced outing, but it was her first attempt to tweak her sound to suit the pop charts. She even recorded it in Hollywood instead of Nashville. It only charted at No. 77 (trip out on that if you're a numerologist), but it yielded a hit with the ambitious ballad "Light of a Clear Blue Morning," and the squeaky "Applejack" has since become fan favorites. Her version of the Motown classic "My Girl" is also a sweet gem.
