Feeling his days wind down and murmuring about it plenty, the 68-year-old Texas outlaw stays mostly in crusty dirge mode, prophesying Armageddon with storm clouds on the horizon. But he cranks up amps in homage to a "Chick Singer, Badass Rockin'" in Cuban-heeled suede boots and torn stockings who sings like "a drunk Chrissie Hynde." "Bad on Fords" is another rocker, about growing up on the Stones and ZZ Top and hot-wiring cars. And though Ray Wylie slows again from there, it's partly to pay overt tribute to Mississippi blues musicians Charlie Musselwhite and Jessie Mae Hemphill.
